Foong Foong Yong Tau Foo @ Jalan Merdeka, Ampang

Ampang is famous for its Yong Tau Foo (YTF). There are so many YTF restaurants around and some of them are Foong Foong Yong Tau Foo, Restaurant Orchard View Yong Tau Foo and Ampang Homeland Yong Tau Foo. According to a friend of my sister, YY who is a local here, the best YTF restaurant is Foong Foong’s. Relying on this, we drove ourself to Ampang to try out the YTF there.

The restaurant is not visible from the main road, so if you are not a local here, you may have a bit of trouble finding this place. Fortunately, I have a GPS to guide myself here. I have no trouble looking for this place. “PS: GPS is a good investment, do get one if you are adventurest person”.

My favourite would be the stuffed brinjals despite it being oily and white tau foo. The size of the white tau foo is considerably small compared to usual ones I had in Kepong.

As there were only four of us, we ordered 20 random pieces of YTF. Here, each piece are priced at RM0.90. After doing some diggings around, I found out that each piece were priced at RM0.60, 5 years back. The price are more expensive now. It was so much cheaper back then.

FriedWanton

For the fried yong tau foo, I prefer the crunchy fried dumpling more than the fried “foo chuk“.

FriedFooChuk

The fried foo chuk was crunchy alright.

This place is usually packed especially during the weekends. We were there at about 10.45am and there were already a small morning crowd in the restaurant. I would advice you to come a bit early to avoid the big crowd in the afternoon.
