Tours and trails seem to be very de rigeur right now — wine trails, whiskey trails, chocolate factory tours, and distillery tours are all on the minds of clever travelers looking to get the most from an upcoming trip. And Wisconsin is getting in on the mix with their newly released “Traveler’s Guide to America’s Dairyland” cheese tour map.
Day trips, weekends, or quick afternoon jaunts can be organized with their handy map, which you can download or request by mail for free. The map lists more than 100 cheesemakers, specialty cheese shops, and dairy farms so travelers can get just what they’re looking for. The map includes notes on what to try where — one shop has great gift baskets and apple pies, one specializes in cheese with jalapeños — and important details about each place, like that one cheesemaker has been working since 1902 and has won more than 50 awards.
So when you’re packing up the car for that next road trip, make sure you map out some time on Wisconsin’s cheese trail. Who wouldn’t love a stop for some milky fresh or stinky cheese straight from some of the country’s best sources?
